it's definitely worth going through the process Katherine has outlined in her very good answer(Thumbs up!) and waiting out the time period. You will definitely come out ahead financially.

First you must submit a written request to the parish zoning commission. The commission will review the issue at their monthly meeting where they will hear any public comments (for or against). You can attend in person or send anyone to represent your position (an attorney is recommended but not required).
Essentially you should be prepared to state why your property should be rezoned - in your earlier post you mentioned the proxmimity to commercial development. That woud definitely have an impact on your ability to sell the property in its current residential zoning classification. In some cases, once your request is approved by the commission, they will present it to the parish council for final approval. It is a lenghty process (a few months at least), but could be well worth it in the long run.

Go to Planning & Zoning which is located in the courthouse in Livingston (Exit 22 on I-12)You can probably get some information online from the Livingston Parish website, but I am quite sure that you would have to complete this in person. it might require going before a board meeting.

you ill have to go thorugh a zoning change through your county/ parish government. It is a lot of paperwork and you usually need an updated survey.
