A reference from a agent in your area is a good way to start. I would then check their web to see if they have a BIO that explains had they work and a little back ground on them. Next a call to them for a more formal interview. Good Luck.

Are you moving from Kent or to Kent? Best bet would be to find someone that is recommended by a local Realtor that you know or have met & feel comfortable with. This Realtor can resarch the area for you & interview agents in your new area for you.
They can also keep in tpouch with that Realtor for you As well as touching base with you. That way, the out-of-town Realtor will know that only the highest professional standards will be acceptable as it pertains to your new home.

Your best bet is to seek out family and friends who have used agents recently and get a referral from one of those you like who is with a company that does business in your new area and that has a good reputation where you are now. The agents, knowing your connection to their previous (and potentially future) clients, will be sure to recommend reputable agents in the area you're going to.

You can go on different real estate broker web sites and view bios of agents. If you find one that interests you call them amd find out if they are a top producer in that area. Also, you can call different brokers in the area and ask them who the top agents in their office are. Then do a telephone interview.

Start with a real estate company that holds its agents to a higher standard than most (RE/MAX), then check their sells per agent (ask them to send this info to you on letterhead by email)(may what to call other offices in same area to compare). When you get this narrowed down ask the broker for them to recommend an agent that can provide recommendations from past clients with their phone numbers attached.
