Yes, absolutely. If you don't like the service you are getting, fire them. Write them a polite letter to them and get released. Whether or not you get a release, you may not be able to purchase any property you visited while with them for some time.
Hope that helps.

I am not in the middle of any deals right now with the broker. I fired the agent that I had and now the broker is acting as my agent as well (very confusing). The broker is just as lazy as the agent and I just want to get rid of the whole deal with them. Can I just write them a letter and send it certified mail to document and record the termination of the contract?
Are you under contract to buy a house right now, or not? That'll be the key question.
I concur with Jeff. However, if there is an offer in the works and you do not like the agents work, then you will need to get with the broker and discuss the matter with him or her. The broker can then get another agent from the office which is willing to work for you.

It shouldn't be that hard--a buyers agency agreement is basically an employment contract. If you are unhappy with your agent, you can fire them--they can fire you, too for that matter. You can probably expect some static over it, but get in touch with their Broker In Charge if you have to.
