We are supposed to close today however only this morning we found out that not only were termites found on the property, but the sellers said they are willing to "split the costs of treatment" which now looks like $1700. The problem was never disclosed to us before today, and it is a mere 2 hours before we are to close. Should we pay or should we walk away?
You could contact Community Escrow and Title. They would be glad to prepare the paperwork.
If the termite inspection shows that the home has termites and the sellers have a written estimate,
it is acceptable to split the cost of the treatment with the Sellers and continue to close. You could also delay the closing for a few days and get your own estimates for termite treatment to see if $1700 is a high estimate or if it is a good estimate.
