Ronald and I agree that your homeowners’ association should carry insurance to cover the condo building. The cost of this coverage should be included in your monthly HOA dues. The type of risks that are covered can vary from association to association. You will need to get your own insurance in addition to the HOA coverage. Your personal liability as well as your personal assets will not be covered by the HOA insurance. You need to talk to an insurance agent about what kind of coverage is best for you.

Property insurance to cover the structure on a condo is included in the Homeowners Association fees. To insure the contents an owner must get what is essentially a "renter's" policy, the cost of which would depend on what you are insuring. If you are looking for a condo in West Hollywood I would be happy to help you and to recommend some terrific insurance agents.

For an accurate and clear picture on your insurance costs--contact a few local agencies and ask for estimates based on your needs--then choose the one that suits you best.
