Insurer for a single-family "fixer" home on Sanibel?

Asked by crawfordmelanie34, Sanibel, FL Tue Jan 8, 2013

Liveable but in need of updating - most plumbing and HVAC not updated since 1978. Had dwelling/fire insurance through Florida Family but now they are cancelling because they say the plumbing is too old. Are there any other options for insurance out there for "hard to insure" properties? Never had this problem with any of my other FL fixer properties, but never bought on Gulf Coast before.

I think your best bet is to talk to a Sanibel insurance agent, but with the new regulations you are in a tough spot. Call Rosier Insurance 239-443-8332 or Heidrick Insurance 239-579-0660, both local agents.

Tough spot.....old island home......not too many will be beating down the door to insure that. Call any local Allstate agency.....they broker it but have the pick of the litter. They will tell you one way or the other.
