why are the property taxes so high in olympia fields, illinois?

I see a house that sold for $160 in 2001 with almost $6000 per year in property taxes and its now being listed for $199k so the taxes will go up. I know its a beautiful area but thats very very high.

FIRST ANSWER

It's possible the home actually had a higher value at one time, perhaps the property was not owner occupied and didn't have an exemption. Olympia Fields does not have a lot of business or industry to offset the cost of running a lovely village so property taxes take on that burden.
