When considering taxes you need to look at the benifits you are recieving for those monies. The fire distric, schools, Public amenities (library,Pools, beaches,programs etc.) how is the local gov. size what is is police force needs and so on.
In general I believe that Southampton Town has the lowest taxes on moderate priced homes. This town covers many cities and villages within but the rates are lower in this town on a value basis.
Thats not to say you could not find better taxes in other places because , I work the south shore of suffolk, I have come accross varied rates and some of it makes no sense. Occasionally we see the taxes on a home that are way out of line with the rest of the area both on the high side and the low side so it come down to what you are looking for. You dont want to find low taxes first than the house. you want to find a home first than ration the taxes as described above. Town of Southold is much more affordable than the Town of Riverhead, also I believe most if not all Western Suffolk.
