You are going to find that most of them have very similiar costs, exclusions and optional coverages. However, they can be worth having. I currently have a Fidelity Home Warranty plan on my home. The optional coverage for a refrigerator recently made the policy pay for itself. With 20 year old air conditioners, I'll be renewing too.
Three of the more popular are Fidelity http://(www.homewarranty.com), American Home Shield (homewarranty.ahs.com), and Old Republic http://(www.orhp.com)
Over the years, my clients have used all three, and I believe all three are similar in cost/ benefits.
When I purchased for myself, I got American Home Sheild, with the Extended Services option, known as the Combo Plan.
The Combo Plan covers many of your major appliances and critical home systems.
Any questions about how it works, or my experiences with it, I'd be happy to speak with you about specifics.
