Trulia receives/posts listings from many sources. They pull data from Multiple Listing Services like http://www.Realtor.com, and Public Records (not necessarily recently updated), as well as private citizens, landlords, owners, etc..ANYONE can post anything on the site. It is up to all Trulia users to report Phishing and Spam abuse.
If you use Public Recordws (where accessible online) and stick to http://www.Realtor.com which only shows postings by licensed professional Realtors, you should see much more accurate information.

As with any site on the web the data is entered by humans who as we know can make "misstakes". Your best bet when looking at real estate is to use an MLS. A true MLS (Multi Listing Service) is only available to licensed real estate agents, but I have something that is close and updated frequently.. Check out this public MLS at PaDreamHouses.com. Use the link below to get you there. Happy hunting!
