PS I'm not a realtor by the way, just looking on the site and thought I'd send you a note to help. Polk and Rutherford are VERY CONSERVATIVE....counties. And I can't stress VERY enough. :-) And it is no where near the Smokies either.

In answer to your motel question....I'm sure in this economy you could negotiate a long term stay. We stayed at the Residence Inn in Asheville when looking but it was very pricey, about $1800 for the month. There are many many motels, especially out in the Cherokee area, where you could probably do it. Check out Hot Springs, Sandy Mush, Cherokee, Enka, Waynesville, Marshall, Mars Hill, all very close to Asheville and could have what you're looking for. (Cherokee's an hour away; Waynesville, about 30 mins. the rest are very close in). The closer you are to Asheville the more liberal the area is, too, Cherokee being the exception as it is where the Harrah's Casino is on the reservation. Nice place.

Hi Jo, the motels depend on where you are looking - we would be happy to help you when you know. I did a search for you based on 3+ acres under $150,000, this will give you an idea of where you will get the most property for your money. We can also add pasture to the search for the horses. Cut and paste this link to look at the properties:

Realtor.com is a good place to do a detailed search. Go to the Advanced Search option under Find A Home, then enter the information you wish to search for. Move.com may also be helpful, as well as Moving.com.

I've found that a site like Realtor.com offers a great opportunity to find aout of area properties. By using each search engines properties you can quickly get an idea of what property is worth and who the local agents to cantact are. Please call me or e-mail me and I can help you find an agent in North Carolina that would be a great help. While I currently live in California, my wife and I are having a home built in the Charlotte NC area.
