Stay away from credit repair services. Most overpromise and underdeliver. And either they're doing the same thing you can do--usually for free--or else they're promising to do things (like remove legitimate black marks from your credit) that they can't deliver on.

Educate yourself on credit. There are plenty of books out there. Here's a link to Amazon (or just enter "credit repair for dummies"): http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=search-alias%3Daps&…

Also, there are some credit/finance education services out there. They're not credit repair services. One I know of (I know the owner) is at http://www.cleancreditqueen.com Linda's site is kind of cheesy (and you definitely don't want to see her wearing her credit queen crown as she sings "50 Ways To Love Your Credit." But her information is actually very good.

Another good source is a good mortgage broker. The good ones will sit down with you, go over your credit report, identify weaknesses, and make suggestions on what to do to improve your score. That costs you nothing. (They're doing it in hopes that when you do buy, you'll use them; that's when they make their money.)

Hope that helps.

Altrose,

What ever you do, due diligince is key. Make sure you check inot the companies that you caontact, although I have not been involved with one I have heard numerous stories of these companies being a little dishonest.

Check online with like NBC.com and do reserach in one of their recomended credit repair companies as I think I rememebr seeing a special report on these companies.

Good Luck.

There are so many credit repair companies out there. It's hard for the consumer to know which ones are reputable. I found a company that seems to know what they're doing and charges a reasonable price. I have a link posted at my website http://www.weldyteam.com . Good luck!

You can go online and request a copy of your credit report. All you need to repair your credit will be on the reports. Contact each of the outstanding creditors and work out a deal with them to pay off your debt which will clear your credit.
