local company was called by our realtor to come out and inspect pool before we bought the home... apparently they didn't check for leaks other than at pump... we are now losing more than 2 inches of water a day from pool somehow.
My friend's pool was also losing water every day. Pump, filter, etc. checked out okay. But a visual inspection of the bottom of the pool (using a dive mask) revealed a settling crack in the deep end. That is where the water was seeping out.
That pool is an older Concrete/Cement pool from the 1970's, but my understanding is that Vinyl Liners, Fiberglass, and other Pool Types can also develop cracks or other leaks. You may want to have the integrity of the pool itself checked out more thoroughly.
BTW, If the Inspection that was done failed to reveal an existing problem, there may be liability issues involved. See an Attorney for Legal Advice.

slk,
The scope of any inspection can be directly related to your expectations. It is normal for a pool inspection to involve an inspection of the pump and filtration system as wella s a visual inspection of the surface for pitting or other problems. Unless you have direct information about loss of water there may be no reason to go forward with a dye test to determine where and if water is definitely being lost.
A converstaion with the company that did the evaluation should clear up the extent of their work. Take a look at the paperwork to see if this document explains this in any detail.
Good luck
