what's a good area to live close to the the medical center (but not too expensive)?
Hi, I recently got a residency in the medical center, houston and it's looking that it may be better to buy something instead of renting... where is a good area to buy without being too far away? I don't mind a 20 min drive, but the safety is my main concern. I also can't afford the 1 million plus houses around the TMC....
thanks!

Hi Paula,
Congratulations on your residency!!! Since you don't want to throw your money away in rent (which is a great idea) then I am thinking you might not want to pay the monthly maintenance fees for a condo. Your two next options are a house or a townhouse. I recommend Midtown, Rice Military, Upper Kirby & even West University. All of these areas are inside the 610 loop. You will not have to worry about safety and will have a 15 minute or less drive. Let me know if you would like for me to shoot you an email with some listings. Hope this helps. Hi - I'm Mark with the Fuller Team - I have helped out over 20 doctor residences just like you over the last few years - I can help show you the best locations. Your best bet is a townhome or Condo - the price range for the safer complexes is $120's to $230's. Shoot me an email and I will email you a good list - but you need to tell me your requirements and price range first - here's my website: www.markfuller.net

Good going, Paula!
You'll like the area around the Medical Center. There are many townhomes and condos for sale, lease, lease-purchase just minutes from the MC, such as around Braeswood. That area is quickly becoming more developed (read: more expensive) so jump on buying there if you can. You can still find really affordable condos or THs there. If you are going to be here for a few years I would definitely buy. (You can always buy and hold; rent it out when you move, as opposed to straight selling.) There are many great realtors here who can help you search for ready-to-live-in homes, or you are very welcome to e-mail me for info on finding great , more affordable deals, and I can direct you on where to turn. Hi Paula,
I would just like to add to your answers and the main thing would be to get your financing in place first becasue you can always find a good area. Medical center and the surrounding areas mainly have townhomes and condos. They do have homes, but the prices are steep depending on the space that you will need. You also need to be aware of taxes and maintenance fees in the purchase of a townhouse or a condo. Please let me know if you need any additonal assistace in your home search. Hi Paula,
I wanted to invite you to my open house today from 2-4 pm on 9211 Riddlewood Lane in the Medical Center. I can tell you that you do not want to deal with traffic when coming home from a 30 hour shift (like you may in some of the outside the loop communities) and so the medical center area is an ideal place to be. Hope you can make it! Sat Mar 29 2008, 23:16 Web Reference: http://www.har.com

Paula congratulations in you residency. There are many options around The Medical Center (20 min drive or less), it depends of what do you like, I will recommend Pearland, it’s a growing area 12 to 15 miles south of the medical center, with many options for new construction and used as well.
Let me tell you that a walking distance from the Medical Center there are many options for lease too, so you could rent for a short period of time (6 months) while you get the feeling of the city and decide where you want to move. I Hope I had been of some help. Good luck. Sat Mar 29 2008, 21:53 Web Reference: http://www.cityofpearland.com/

Depending on your budget, there're many nice subdivisions with houses of different price levels near by medical center. For townhomes or condos, area south of Medical Center near by Reliant Stadium would be a good starter area. If your schedule avoids rush hour, 90(S. Main) west gets you to Sugar Land which was ranked one of the safest cities in US. To check houston area crime rate, click on the link below.

Hi Paula,
Have I got a place for you. I don't know if you have children, but I have a spacious 4 bedroom in the medical center area (inner loop, Woodside community) with 2800+ sq feet (not including the screened/covered patio), 2.5 baths, and 11 closets. It's just above $400K. 9211 Riddlewood Lane. Zip is 77025. It's under a 10 minute drive (save on gas). to the Med Center. Personally I think that for the space, safety, land, convenience-- the price is unbeatable. Hope you check it out when you come to Houston if it's still available. Good luck next July. S P.S. it's also up for rent if you'd like.... Fri Mar 28 2008, 01:19 Web Reference: http://www.har.com

Hi Paula,
Congrats on your Residency! The Medical Center is close to a lot of great neighborhoods! It really all depends on what kind of property you are looking for. There are single family homes in subdivisions, then there are the townhomes and also the more modern executive type homes with smaller yards. If you let me know what type of proprty you are looking for, I can definately point you in the right direction! More than glad to help! Your Friend in the Real Estate Business!
