The square footage shown on the tax records is different than the square footage in the MLS. Most of these homes were built with the top level finished and the bottom level unfinished and as such, the lower level was classified as basement and not included in the square footage. Whenever you see a situation such as this, you can be fairly certain that the basement was built out without permits. If you are interested in this home, I’d recommend that you check with the Union City Building Department. If indeed no permits were pulled for the lower space improvements, then you could have some serious liability on your hands if you purchase.
