Hello Lisa,

I hope the answers you have received have given you a place to start. There is no such thing as a standard rate and you will find local companies that offer a la carte services as well as the more traditional full service brokerages. If you have more specific questions or are simply curious about what sort of options you have available locally I would be happy to help you out.

A lot of home owners become a little gun-shy about even speaking with a Realtor, but you will find the good ones are more than happy to answer your questions without trying to corner you into any actions you don't want to take.

Feel free to give me a call if there is anything I can help you with.

Hello Lisa and thanks for your question.

With our current economy and with so many homeowners only barely able to make enough money from the sale of their current home to move into a new home, your question about fees is a very good one.

All real estate fees between the agent and the client are negotiable for the seller. If you don't want to spend 6 percent or more, then negotiate down. A seller who is willing to do some of the work themselves--such as show the home or handle the sales inquiries--might also consider selling the home with an FSBO (For Sale By Owner) assistance company that will list your home on the local MLS and then help you review contracts and sell it. There are now also "fixed fee" real estate agents, who will sell your home for a fixed fee rather than a fee based on the cost of the home price. Our company, for example, is getting ready to unveil a $1000 listing service to homeowners, and we know that this will help a lot of people who are on the "cusp" (so to speak) between being able to sell the home and having to short sale the property.

You will need to look around, however, for these "new Realtors" as their services are not yet very well known and the more prevalent type of realtor is the straight commission Real Estate agent. Even if working with a straight commission real estate agent, talk to each and work with each to hammer out a plan that meets your needs and your budget.

Good luck!!

Sincerely,

Lisa,

Fees for professional services are negotiable however, are presently hovering in a 5-9 percent range. This amount is often directly related to the level of service provided.
