There is no "normal" commission in Massachusetts, nor anywhere else in the country. By law, commission is entirely negotiable between you and your agent, based in large part on what services you will receive.

Interview several agents and talk to them about this.

It is the one that you and your broker agree on.
I would suggest that you find out if your house has any special assets or issues that may affect your marketing time.

When you look at the time it takes to sell a home, and then adjust the commission for the time, you'll find that most real estate professionals are less expensive that most other professionals.
Otherwise, each professional would only need to sell one or two properties occasionally to make a living.

True full-time professionals have many deals going at the same time so they can make a living.
They just get paid all at once instead of monthly or weekly - and it is for the work they have completed.

If you interview three realtors it will probably be the same or very close. Everthing is negotiable.

Great answers, all true. Talk to agents in your area and see what they are offering and for what percentage.

As stated, discuss with the Agent of your choice as commissions are negotiable & not legal to discuss in an open forum.

We're actually prohibited from discussing it publically, by law. And it is 100% negotiable between you and your agent.
