Per square foot cost is determined by the total cost of the materials and labor to build a home divided by the total square foot of the home. If you choose a $300 GE Range (as an example) vs. a $10,000 Viking range your per square foot cost would be very different. If you choose a $2 sq. ft. carpet vs. a $40 sq. ft. exotic hard wood floor, your per square foot cost would be similarly impacted. There are hundreds of construction options from which to choose that impact the square foot cost. My point here is a square foot cost is simply not an accurate barometer by itself from which to value a home. The only way to accurately value new construction is to add up all the costs.

To suggest there is an average cost per square foot is also incomplete. The average expectation for one person who has always had laminate counter tops, stock kitchen cabinets and modest carpet will be different from the expectations of someone that has always had granite counter tops, custom kitchen cabinets and exotic hard wood floors. "Average" is in the eye of the beholder.

Higher than last year. Building materials and concrete are continuing to go up not come down. Pricing all depends on plan and lot and your wants. It is hard to quote with out this info. Most of our homes start around $110. and go up. This would be a typical home in today market, with some brick or stone accents hardiplank siding 30 year shingle, some hardwood floors, ceramic tile bath floors 12.50 yard carpet basic cabinets ( 12,000.)and appliances ( 1500.) 3 or 4 bedrooms fiberglass tub shower units nice trim package, just a sampling. Your budget will control this cost. It could go up or down,
