La Grange Il. is 20 minutes from downtown Chicago. If you look east across most streets you'll see the Sears (now Willis) tower. It has a varied house stock, as it was built over time, not as a "sprawl" development. The Huge mature Elms and Maples line the street. We have a great downtown . It is "Mayberry" in many ways since everyone does treat you like they know you and like you.
It has award winning schools, such as Spring Avenue School, ranked #1 by Chicago Magazine in '07. Lyons Township High School has 2 campuses, South house the Freshman and Sophmores. The North Campus is a few blocks north and has the Junior and Senior classes, for a total of about 4000 students.
I live here, raise my kids here. It is the best move I ever made!

Anne,
I may be biased since I live in La Grange, but it is a great area with so much to offer. The Metra can get you downtown in 20 minutes if you catch an express train, but really there is so much to keep you occupied in La Grange. It has a robust downtown with a good mix of family owned businesses and national franchises. There are a lot of options for dining, a movie theater that only charges $3.50 a ticket, a new library, and good selection of clothing/retail stores. Housing is well diversified here too - some condos/townhomes close to town, homes on the historic register, and new construction too. There really is something for everyone in La Grange! Anne,

LaGrange is actually part of my market area and I live just a couple of towns away.

There are some great things about LaGrange. My daughters love taking a 4 minute train ride from Riverside to down town LaGrange, which is on LaGrange Rd. They have some teriffic restaurants and shopping areas right in the down town strip. They are really known for their large size homes. Some date back to the early 1900s. Homes are also being knocked down and new homes are being built. Price ranges can be from 300,000 up to 2,000,000. LT High School is your public high school and it's a very good and highly recognized school for sports and etc.

Anne:
Here are a couple other sites for you. I like these because they are independent of the town for an unbias prespective.

I can direct you to the the village website and it can give you more information on the town. I always recommend to my clients who are interested in a new area, to drive around and see the traffic patterns, parks, shopping and homes. See if this is a area they might see themselves living in. Check out the village website: http://www.villageoflagrange.com/ it provides lots of interesting information.

Hope this helps you.
