There are several nice areas in the area. I have lived in Santa Barbara since 1982 and now what areas feel safe to me. Another way that you can find out about crime in certain areas of town is to talk to the police department. I did move away from Santa Barbara for five and came back. I love the area and have always felt safe. But remember, this is my perception. Do your investigations. It's important to keep in mind that the entire Santa Barbara/Goleta area has a lower crime rate compared to most of the communities and cities in this part of California. Most buyers feel safe in almost every part of town, and my wife and I don't even lock our front door, unless we are gone for more than weekend.

If you can tell me a bit more about your price range, family needs, etc. I may be able to recommend a few good neighborhoods that fit those needs. Prices will range dramatically from 1-2 bedroom condos for $200-350k to high end estates in the $20-50million range.

It's a great way to learn about, or keep up-to-date on the current inventory in our market and gives you a leg-up on other potential buyers who only hear about a property through the newspaper.
