Hi Priti,

There are pros and cons to both single family homes and townhouses. With a single family home, while you enjoy privacy and space between your home and your neighbors, you are responsible for all of the maintenance and upkeep of your home and property. With a townhouse, you either share walls with your neighbors or, in a free-standing townhouse community, the townhouses are very close to each other and you typically will not have a private yard. On the plus side, you will not have to worry about exterior maintenance and grounds maintenance, but you will pay a monthly common charge for that privilege. Your lifestyle and family requirements would be the best determination of which style of home is best suited for you.

In terms of price, the general rule of thumb is for your house to cost no more than 3 times your annual income. With your salary at $150,000, this would mean purchasing a home in the $450,000 range or less to be more conservative.

In this price range, there are currently several new construction single family homes available in the North End of Stratford, Shelton, North End of Bridgeport and Milford as well as the Danbury, New Milford and New Fairfield areas. There are significantly fewer new construction townhouses currently on the market and these are located mostly in Norwalk, Stamford and Danbury.

If you have additional questions or would like assistance in researching the best property for your family's needs, please feel free to call or email me at any time.

Thanks,

Hi Priti,
There are plusses and minuses to every scenario. In order to make an informed decision it would be wise to examine your family's needs, wants, resources, motivation, and timing. If you would like to discuss your impressions I offer a complimentary buyer session where we can sit down and exchange what I can and can not do for you. My focus is single family and town house condominiums in southern Fairfield County, CT. Thank you for your time.
