No you don't have to wait.
If you come across a property you want to buy, make your offer subject to the sale of this piece of land. Not all sellers will go for this but some will. They will also want to know that the piece of land your selling is marketable and priced right before they enter into a contract.
Usually the buying process takes 2-6 months anyways. At the very least get set up with a Real Estate Agent who can send you new properties daily, do your drive bys and acclimate yourself to the real estate market.
