utility pole on driveway of house

A house I was looking at has a utility pole right on the side of the driveway. What is the effect of having a utility pole on private property? I'm assuming it will lower the value of the home. Is this something most buyers stay away from? Any thoughts will be appreciated. Thanks!

Dear Anne,
It's so interesting that you would bring this up, as I was just talking to a friend who owns property in Manhattan Beach with the exact problem. Yes it is annoying, but buyers will not automatically disregard your home because of it.
I would think of it this way, given two homes that are exactly the same, they might pick the one without the problem instead. Unless...the one with the pole..is lower in price!
My friend is going to work with the city, and the neighbor to have that pole removed, but it will be expensive for her.

I'm sure it would just be a matter of preference. The utilities usually have an easement on property, this one just happens to be very visible.

I haven't seen it have a major effect; most people have a pole in the front or back of their property or in their neighbor's property, which if they were concerned about it falling, would have the same effect. Only time I see it affect value is if it has high voltage lines/transformer--some people just won't buy it then.
