Pre-School Round-up!

SRVUSD needs information from pre-school parents in the Dougherty Valley community of east San Ramon.


The San Ramon Valley Unified School District is conducting a "Pre-School Round-up" for all children ages 0-4 residing in the Dougherty Valley. During the months of April and May, the Facilities staff will be collecting information from parents to assist in projecting the number of students entering Kindergarten at Coyote Creek, Hidden Hills, Live Oak and Quail Run Elementary Schools in the Fall of 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.

I think pre-school round up is a great idea and glad to see SRUSD is implementing it. This will help school district to understand and plan for over flow capacity. Fortunately, all elementary schools in DV are great. If a child attends quail run, may be parent has to drive 1-2 mile extra.

Tom, there is some overflow issue, my daughter, who is in 2nd grade, has to go to Quail Run this year, our resident school is Hidden Hills. I heard they will increase classes to get all overflow students back next year, but that was before budget cut announced. I hope they still do. My understand is the schools have enough facilities to support all families, (I guess that's not a rocket science to plan out), they will just need to hire more staff to increase capacity. But again, with current budget, who knows. I was impressed that SRVUSD doesn't plan to layoff any staff this year, especially after seeing teachers on strike or cutting their working hours in the district where we moved from.

I think the site you mentioned is http://www.srvusd.net/schools/attendance.jsp?rn=5533084, the schools (elementory, junior, high) desiganated are under normal condition (meaning no overflow).

I left voice mail and sent email to SRVUSD, no response after 2 weeks. My concerns are
1) with new developments in San Ramon, families with kids move in, the situation will get worse. For 94582 area, new townhomes, condos will be released this year, situation will get lot worse.

2) My best hope is SRVUSD foresaw this situation long time ago, and new schools already planned and budgeted. But I don't see this problem can be solved in short term. It is very likely crowed school will rotate classes. Certainly that is not the quality of service we parents would like to see.

There has been word of student overflow, especially at the elementary level. Contact SRVUSD at (925)552-5500 to get an accurate response to your question. I believe the overflow might go to two schools.

You may want to check directly with the School Board in your county. Often all of their school information is posted on their websites. On some you can type in an address or a neighborhood and it will give you info on which school your student would be attending.

I am including a link that may assist you http://www.greatschools.net/. Go to the research and compare tab. However in an overcrowding situation, I would definitely contact the school board directly, as they may be making modifications to the info posted in other areas.
