Seema,
I suggest you find a Realtor to work with you in locating a home. With the state of the market some owners are considering using owner financing or lease options in order to sell their home but they are going to be extremely cautious working with someone with poor credit. WIth a lease option you make a deposit and rent the home with a portion of the rent going towards an additional down payment. At the end of the lease you have the option of purchasing the home at the agreed upon price. (If you decide not to purchase you forfeit your deposit and the rent credits.)
If I were you I would talk to a loan officer who can assist you in determining what you need to do to get your credit back on track and how much home you can afford. Then you can work with a Realtor to see what is available.
This will be a lengthy process in order to find a suitable home with the conditions you are working with. It will also require a lot of work to get your finances together and move smartly to home ownership.
