Some of you guys tooting your own horn is hysterical. Esp. the comment about the condo. Yea raise young children in a one bedroom condo. Some of you guys need to get another job.
Don't take the advice of a real estate agent for this type of question unless they can provide demographic data about the population, the schools, the crime statistics, and such that would affect this topic.

Great question- there are many good places to raise young children here. Cotswold, Uptown, South Charlotte, Pineville, East Charlotte
After traveling throughout this wonderful country, I prefer Charlotte and NC to any other. Southern charm, low cost living, great weather..
make sure to view homes on http://carolinahome.com
this is where the realtors place their MLS listings
Wade,
I have worked with Jonathan and he knows his stuff. He himself has gone through the relocation process and will know the pitfalls to avoid. I would certainly recommend him!

Charlotte is a BIG area, so definitely take your time! As a 20+ year resident, I know my way around and I also stay up to date on what is developing in all the 9 zones in which you speak! Where you land will depend on where your employment will be as well as what things are important to you and your family. I would be honored to discuss your needs with you as your time permits.
Charlotte is a great area, it's also a big area .. so call a cop.!
Most realtors there will tell you how they know the area - they don't .. once you get them out of their zipcode or listing area they're flat lost.
Charlotte is divided into 9 zones like a pie, some realtors know 3 of 9, some might even know 5 of 9, but that's about it -- that's a big distance between Lake Norman and Lake Wylie .l.o.l.. also Union and Cabarrus county is sprouting up with some nice homes to the east.
Remember when I said "call a cop".? .. we stayed at the Marriot by 77, this way we could look through Mathews and east, and Charlotte and north to Norman .. that's also were all the cops do their buffet breakfast almost everyday .. sit with those guys for awhile and you'll learn more about where to live (or not) than any 3 day realtor convention.
The point is, take your time, do your homework and spend a few days there - then look .. most realtors will only drop you into an area they know or have worked around.

I would tell you to look into your options in Fort Mill, SC which is only 12 miles from Uptown Charlotte with some of the best rated schools around, as well as lower taxes than Charlotte. There is a ton of new development, homes, shopping, entertainment, recreation, etc there that would make raising children enjoyable and very comfortable! I would be happy to send you some listings that match your needs if you send me an email at jen1@kw.com.
The Charlotte market is quite large so I would suggest considering a few other factors as well. Where will you will be working and what are your family interests etc? To discuss your question in greater detail just email gstreich@carolina.rr.com or call 704-578-2622.
If you are looking at buying on the north side of the town, the neighborhood where we stay (The Villages of Leacroft) is supposed to be very family oriented and kid friendly. There is a large swimming pool, a play area for kids, 2 Tennis courts. There is only 1 entry/exit point which makes the place much safer.
We are in fact looking at selling our house and we plan to put it in the market at your price range. Let me know if you are interested.
I can definitely help you with this, as a mother of 5 ranging from 6 to 15, I have relocated to Charlotte and I know what it is like to find a great place to live for my children. I would suggest going to my website: http://www.TeresaQuinan.Com and researching the schools - there are links on my website, and also checkout the neighborhoods in the list. You can also search for properties, put in your search criteria and you will find the properties in your price range. I can direct you to the demographics website once you have found an area you are interested in. I live in Matthews, SE Charlotte, some of the neighborhoods which might be in your price range in this area would be Somersby, Settlers Landing, Raintree. Contact me if you have any further questions, I would love to work with you. I can set you up on an automated e-mail search - your own personalized webpage - with properties which meet your criteria. Good luck.
Wade, as a REALTOR, I can't say definitively what neighborhoods are better than another however I can share with you that $200k can buy you quite a lot here in Charlotte. Its a very family friendly city with its parks, greenways, amusements, and good schools.
To learn more about the schools in North Carolina, visit http://www.ncreportcards.org/src/ and http://ed.sc.gov/topics/researchandstats/schoolreportcard/ for South Carolina.
A better way to ask that question would be: I'm looking for a neighborhood that has x, y, z for around $200k. Where can I find that?
Didn’t find what you were looking for? Ask a question!
