Yes, there is are a limited number of residences along the Animas, La Plata and San Juan Rivers. The Animas and La Plata Rivers have no dams on them and flood seasonally. The San Juan River's flowage is regulated by Navajo Dam, which also allows large discharges to maintain an ideal reservoir level. Much of the river frontage is either owned by businesses or is dedicated to an extensive park system, and rests on low flood plains.
