New single familes in Metuchen are very hard to come by, they are there but few in numbers and high in price. You can purchase an older home that has quaility upgrades and newer additions. Remember the best are usually the older homes that have been remodeled as apposed to the newer homes built with generally more standard materials. Most built to resale rather than built for the builders personal home. I'm not saying there still not a great home to own, just that older homes seem in my experience to be of a better quaility and fantastic woodwork, especially in Metuchen
Raja,
Metuchen is a borough of mostly older homes, which appeals to certain buyers because of their woodwork, old world charm etc.
Please bear in mind though, that an older home doesn't necessarily mean more problems, just different ones than a newer home (every house has issues). I have seen brand new homes with leaky roofs, settlement issues, etc. Also, new single family homes in the Edison/ Metuchen area are not inexpensive for the most part..
An older home often DOES mean that most, if not everything, has been upgraded (IE: kitchens/baths/floors/plumbing etc) to bring it to par with a "newer home".
Here is a link to all single family homes with 3 BR and at least 2 Full baths in Edison and Metuchen regardless of date built. Check them out and make sure to click on the picture so you can see all the photos of the homes.

There are some relatively new single family houses at Central Square (built around 2000). I just saw one listed a few weeks ago in the mid-500's. However, be forewarned that there is little land for these "court homes". Occasionally, builders will knock down an old home to build a new house. They usually go for $600k and above depending on the location and size of the lot. Ask your realtor to be on the look out for those.
