there seems to be a lot of activity downtown (fox theater, bars, galleries)
Honestly, I live in Pomona and it is a terrible area to live in. Anything considered "la verne" is very nice and is a better area. the downtown area is falling apart, yes they did reopen the fox and they have the art galleries but that is all that Pomona has going on. if you drive up and down Garey there are homeless every where. the corner of holt and garey at the jack in the box there is prostitution and drug selling. I am a woman in my mid twenties and do not feel safe going out at night to get gas or get groceries . The city doesn’t want to improve the down town area or clean any of Pomona up. There are 2 major gangs in this town too which clash all the time. Pomona is not that big. My husband and I don’t eat in Pomona nor do we shop in Pomona. We go to chino hills which is a beautiful area! Pomona is the worst town that I have ever lived in or seen. I cannot wait to be able to move out of this place. Im not sure where your house is but I hope you purchased it in Philips ranch area or north Pomona area. Good Luck
Hi:
My Aunt, Uncle and cousins moved to Pomona in the 50s when things were really happening. Then about 15- 20 years ago when I came to visit (from the Midwest), I was saddened at how it had gone down hill with graffiti all over and the downtown all run down. I came out again a couple of years ago to find the city back on its way to really becoming something good. No graffiti, a good police presence, renovation of some of the charming buildings downtown, some really good ethnic restaurants and a growing arts community.
My husband and I came out for a visit again in March. We were so impressed that this time, we bought a house. We chose it because it is still more affordable than other towns. And, we liked that Pomona has a real downtown area, a great view of the San Gabriel Mountains and close proximity to major freeways.
Lets face it, all cities have their challenges. Pomona is no different. However, what we have seen since we have been here are mostly hard working people who care and take pride in their community. We have absolutely no regrets in choosing Pomona. Good luck with your decision!

Mics1,
I live in Pomona, I have friends that promote a night club as I have seen there has always been activity in the downtown area with the galleries, glass house and hangout for artists.. Although there is a slight raise of activity now that the Fox theater is bringing some awesome shows (Missed Marilyn Manson's show, LOL).
In real estate it's all about location.
If you want to see whats out there in Pomona, feel free to contact me through my trulia and I will email you a list of properties.

Hi Mics1,
Yes, the City of Pomona has a great general plan for the city and they have attracted many investors to the area. It is a great place to invest. Most of the agents I work with say that it is undervalued, so now would be a good time to buy there. I hope this helps.

Hi Mics1.
As a real estate agent, we are not allowed to really express our opinion on what constitutes a great neighborhood or a "bad" one.
Being that as it may, Pomona is a city that has many elements to it and many people call home. It is a fairly large city and is home to the Los Angeles County fairgrounds amongst other things.
If you look at a city for vitality, Pomona has been doing a lot to build their downtown area to draw it's residents to it. Not sure if that means it is "up and coming though.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to email or call me directly.
Sincerely,
