Before going into Real Estate 6 yrs ago, I was in Management were I manged Bankruptcy Departments for NMAC, HSBC, Capital One, EMC mortgage and the Old Sunbelt Savings & Bright Mortgage for over 20 years. The chpt 7 BK may discharge all debt/deficiencies, but the BK sticks on your credit for 6-10yrs depending on who you talk to. Also, now a days, you are going to need a 600+ fico score just to be considered for a new home loan. Just make sure you talk to at least three lenders and get good faith estimates from each to compare rates.

When you say walk away from home? Is that Forclosure verses short sale? I can give you a few lender's to talk to.

You can!! 3yrs after foreclosure is done with FHA. Conventional loans are more stringent on their guidelines.
You will need perfect credit post BK and rebuild some credit.

Great Question about barnkruptcy and home buying!

I think this question would be best posed to your bankruptcy lawyer but in terms of homebuying,
it is my understanding that as long as your in bankruptcy you can now qualify to purchase a home.
Once your out of bankruptcy and have been released it can take up to two years (or more) to get your credit back to a point where you can qualify. A Bankruptcy attorney could best advise you on your particular private matters.

I believe it is simply a matter of time. I would be happy to send you to a Loan Officer who could look at you full picture and let you know what you need to do to be able to buy a home either now or in the future.
