There are many factors that contribute to your home owners insurance. The distance to the ocean is definitely a large factor, but so is the age of the homes. I would recommend finding insurance company that has access to many insurers. From personal experience I know that rates between insurance companies can vary by thousands of dollars.

If you are assuming that because you move inland a bit you will no longer be in a flood zone, this is not the case. Some of the lowest elevations in the state are many miles inland.
