Hi Helene,
Just because the property has a gas stove it doesn't mean that gas is available in that area. I have a gas stove, (I would rather cook with gas) I use propane tanks for it because gas is not available in my area. I have oil heat. I agree with the advice from the first answer, call the gas company, give them the property address and see if gas is even connected in that area. If it is connected then yes, you can convert to gas. Keep in the mind the whole heating system might have to be converted, and that can be costly

Hi Helene,
There are 2 types of gas heat/cooking. One is natural gas with a line from the street to the house. The other would be bottled gas. Typically in RI if the heat is gas, it will come from the street. In many homes, the heating source is oil and the owners use bottled gas for cooking. If you contact the gas company, they should be able to tell you if there is a line from the street. If there is, you are able to convert to gas heat. Some furnaces can, also, be converted without the expense of purchasing a new furnace. Hope this answers your questions. Enjoy your day!

It sounds like the gas has been brought into the property based on what you are describing. Therefore, most likely you can convert to gas heat. The best way to determine if the gas line is sufficient is to call the gas compnay and give them the address. They will be able to tell you what the service is to the house. Joe
