Brooklyn,

You need to find out if you don't have good credit or really bad credit or ???? consult a local lender. That is only way to know for sure.

Hi,
First, you think are you know that your credit is bad? Do you have collections? have you done something to pay them? Do you have late payments?
You need a credit report and start paying off collections, no late payments and at least 3 current and in good standing trendlines (credits or payment lines) such as credit cards, car loans, students loans, etc, etc ,etc.

Do you know what are your credit scores? Contact a home mortgage consultant to help you on achiving your goal: to get approved for a Mortgage.

Also, start saving for downpayment and take a first time home buyer class from a non profit.

Buy!

Well, that is a loaded question, it depends on How bad is it??
I know you know that FHA ( the government ) is assisting FIRST TIME HOME BUYERS , with a Credit at Closing, of $8000.00. BUT --- you have to have a fair amount of credit history and a job !

So getting credit counseling is very important, ask a lender /banker , at where you bank, is fine, but i could also give you names if you need a direct referral . Do you know your credit score?- around 600 is where you need to be to go FHA. Some homes are selling for less in this Buyer's Market. Just call or email and we can talk further.
