Home Buying in Millburn>Question Details

Nancy Ellen, Home Buyer in Millburn, NJ

i currently live in Jersey City on the waterfront. My son goes to private school. I am getting divorced and will need to send him to public school.

Asked by Nancy Ellen, Millburn, NJ Wed May 12, 2010

My understanding is that Millburn is the best. I need to possibly commute by car to Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Which town has the closest commute. What other nearby area has an excellent public school system? I want to spend up to $700,000 for a home. Will consider best home price/best school district.

Nancy,

The Millburn School district has been continually top rated and ranks # 1 in the state. So if that is your priority, I would encourage you to start your search here. My office is in Short Hills and I'd be happy to give you an area tour and show you what is available in your range.

Other options might be Summit, but the commute would be slightly longer.

Call me at (973) 985-6117 and we can discuss your options.

Our schools in Millburn/Short Hills rank #1 and I can personally tell you how wonderful this school district is since both my children attend the schools. But there are many other top rated schools in the area. Visit http://www.greatschools.org. There are many things to consider when purchasing a home and would like the opportunity to speak to you about your needs and how I can assist you in searching in many of the surrounding areas as well.
Hope this helps!

Nancy,

TFirst off Nancy I am sorry to hear about the divorce, I hope your life will be great in the future. There are many things to consider from what I am reading, schools, price, commute and lifestyle for you and your child(ren). Research will be important for you on this. There are a few towns here in Essex county that have great schools. The question I guess I would ask is how long, time wise, do you want to be commuting to Brooklyn?

Please call or e-mail me if there are any questions that you have or that I can send you more information so that you can make the BEST informed decision for this move.

Hope to hear from you soon,

I went to Millburn high school (a long, LONG time ago). It was a top rated school system then, as it is now. Personally, I feel strongly that people should NOT pay any attention to the school ratings. I have stories that would turn your hair white.
If you care to read my blog on the subject, feel free. Its obviously my opinion, but it is based on personal experience.
As an agent, I can't express an opinion on a particular school system. As a former student, I have no problem doing just that.

You can consider areas in Nassau County, Queens County and Brooklyn--you'll save on tolls and depending on the area, commuting time.

Given those facts, I would probably look in south shore towns of Nassua County, Long Island.
