You can shop different mortgage companies/brokers online, phonebook etc. or use a referral from someone you trust. If you are shopping, check the rates and different packages you are being offered. Compare 2-3. Try to stay away from sites that do everything by email. Once you find someone you are comfortable with, make an appointment and talk to them in person. If you are getting pre-qualed for a loan make sure they give you the pre-qual within 24hrs at most (preferrably same day depending on what time you started). If you have to wait 3 days for it, you need to be somewhere else. Credit bureaus allow you to shop different rates several times before it marks your credit (just don't over do it, but you should be safe having credit pulled up 6 times). Once you have landed on a company, with a little information (i.e job history, financial status etc.) they will pull your credit. If all is good, you should now be prequalified to look for a property in the range you can afford. When you find what you are looking for, present the offer, get it accepted, then give the accepted offer to the mortgage company (hopefully, you will be working with an agent that will do this for you) and they will start your loan application. Once the application is approved, you can now close your transaction. You have just become a homeowner...Congradulations!
