Sue,

You can go to http://www.crimereports.com and get the needed information. Imput 94089 and the results will pop up. You can also define the type of crime/incident that you want to know about. Lastly, you can use the map search and zero in on a particular neighborhood. The information is taken from the Sunnyvale P.D. and is quite reliable. Thanks for the question

Sunnyvale has a fantastic police force, however they can not be every where all the time. I was born, raised, live and still work in Sunnyvale. I have had many friends grow up and live in lakewood and they have had a great life. If you had asked if there were more gangs, burglaries, incidents in 94089 vs 94087 or 94086 I would have to say I would feel safer selling you a home in the other zip codes. Is Lakewood like living in a real bad area? Like cities I will not mention, I would say no it is not as bad. I would suggest driving the area of the home you are considering buying on a Friday night, Sat. Morning, middle of the day and see what is going on. You have to feel safe. If not, don't even think about buying a home in that neighborhood. I don't want to throw Lakewood or Fairwood under the bus either because there are terrific people living in this area. Remember you get what you pay for in Sunnyvale. I'm sorry to say, the fact of the matter is, in all the zip codes in Sunnyvale 94089 has lost the most value in this downturn of housing. There are gangs and burglaries in every city. If you need the facts call the police department. If your buying in this area because you would rather buy a home rather than rent, I would buy a home here if this is your budget. If you can afford a home in 94087, I would'nt think twice about suggesting where you should buy. And yes I would choose 94086 over 94089 and I would choose 94087 over 94086 only because it does have better neighborhoods, better schools, which points to the bottom line when it comes to resale.
You want to drive the neighborhood? I will take you through. No obligation. Talk to the locals. The homes in Lakewood are at a 10-15 year low right now, which could mean a great buy.
Good luck Sue

Hi Sue,
The local Police department has records on crime statistics in each area. These statistics cover all crimes reported, whether a false alarm or not, so take them with a grain of salt. I live in a very safe area of Mountain View, and I was shocked to see how many calls there had been, so you might want to compare a few cities that you're comfortable with and do a comparison rather than take the information at face value.
I think you'll be able to fine more info at this website:

Good luck!
