Yris, If it is a sewer pipe, there have been cases where an existing pipe can be abandoned and a new one re-routed. But, of course, depends on the placement of the city sewerline. I don't know what other kind of pipe you would be talking about. How long ago did you buy your house? You'd need to be more specific - sewer drain, water supply, pipe material, etc.
