Hi Isi,
I agree with Ernesto. This type of sale can take a very long time to complete, and there is no guarantee that, in the end after doing all the necessary paperwork, the bank will actually go through with your offer.
As Amber said, you can get foreclosure information from Riverside County public records.
A better alternative to pre-foreclosures, short sales, etc. is REO property; it's still not the smoothest transaction, but it's much better then pre-foreclosures. I provided a few links below of some of the inventory for your given zip codes. I assumed you met 92507 (Canyon Crest area). I hope this helps!
All homes are a minimum 3 bed/2 bath and under $400k.
92508 (Mission Grove, Orange Crest etc.)

It is public record and free to view. You just have to obtain the lists, follow the links listed below. However, read the article about foreclosures I have posted on my blog taken from bankrate.com, it is very informative regarding the entire foreclosure process. Let me know if there are any questions, visit Amber4RealEstate.blogspot.com and call me if you have questions. Thanks!
In the Tucson area I receive a list from the title company I work with. However many of these may never foreclose for what ever reason. You will be wasting lots of time trying to buy one of these and most likely it will never happen. Your best bet is to work with a local agent who has experience with REO properties. He can send thru the MLS new listings as they come up. If the Riverside market is anything like Tucson the nice homes sells fast and usually for more the the asking price. So be sure you get current comps.

Good hunting, Dunes
Do nor waste your time with foreclosures it takes too long and you may not get it after all. Go with and REO because the property has already been taken through the process and there is significant less time envolbed.

Your best bet is to hire a realtor who specializes in short sales and bank owned properties. You could pay for a service such as realty trac but I personally think it is a waste of money.
Plus if this is your first time trying to buy one of these kind of homes, it is not an easy process at all and you are better off dealing with someone who has been through it time and time again.
