The towns assessing office is the best place to get owners name from. The one problem that a house that enters the foreclosure process, most often can not be sold. they either owe more than the house is worth or are too close to the foreclosure auction to have time for a short sale.

You should search public records, or even doing a reverse search via http://www.whitepages.com for additional information.

Check local public records, tax records, ask any neighbor, any local agent offline, etc.

It went into preforeclosure where? Preforeclosure is a term that really is not correct, a home is either in or not in foreclosure. preforeclosure is a term we started using back a few years ago when short sales were starting to become so prominent. A short sale property being sold is often called a preforeclosure since the owner is attempting to sell before they go to foreclosure auction. If you noticed it maybe it was listed as a short sale for sale in which case it makes no difference who the owner is. If you are saying you noticed it listed as a property in foreclosure, but before the auction, and calling that a preforeclosure it is in foreclosure. Foreclosure is a process ending with an auction. If you think you can contact someone to buy the house, you can't. Until the auction the bank does not own it and so they can not sell it and the owner can sell it but do you want to pay more than it is worth to buy it and pay off the loan? I doubt it so I am confused why you want to know the owners name.

All properties owners should be available at the local town offices...check tax assessors records.
