As the others say: No, you don't have to be married to buy a house.

However, if you and someone else are buying the house, and you're not married, please check with a lawyer. It can get very messy if the two of you separate or go your own ways. What you need is some up-front agreement that says who'll be responsible for the house--or how ownership will be handled--in case you two separate.

Hope that helps.

Tysa,

You don't have to be married, but you do need to be at least 18 years of age.

Have a great day!

Marriage can be a nice perk, Tysa. Short answer: Unnecessary. Just like for cars or anything else paid for with a loan, if you have the means, you can own it.

Best of luck in what I hope is a home pursuit.

No you don't need to be married, if you qualify for a mortgage you are free to buy whenever you wish.

hi Tysa,, Answer is NO however in the way old days in some areas of the USA you had to be to inherit the home, otherwise it went to the kids.

Good thing it don't work that way anymore.
