I live in Bayonne and have no problem with transportation. I go to the NYC every weekend, no problem at all. We have buses, the light rail and the ferry is coming soon. I have no complaints about the schools and I have two young ones in the public. I use to commute to New York for work, took me an hour on the bus. With the prices today though, I would go for a house instead of a condo, more room. I moved hear from Manhattan and cannot complain.

It is close to New York but the transportation is not the greatest. Jersey City and Hoboken is more convenient to NY. In terms of investment, it is the same thing.
