In a standard transaction that date is a deadline that can be easily moved if all parties are in agreement. With a Short Sale it can be much more difficult to change the date. Unfortunately the banks (approving the Short Sale) are very slow to respond to such requests. Your agent should be able to make the attempt for you.
He/she would have to get the sellers, their bank, the closing attorney and you to all agree on a date. It might be difficult to get it moved up by an entire month. I wish you luck.
You should always use a Buyer's Agent when purchasing Real Estate. Someone who will look out for YOUR interests, not he sellers or the banks. They will guie you through the process, answer your questions and handle any situations that may arise, again, in your best interests.
