Firstly, the "best location to buy" can only be determined by your family's specific personal needs. Location is the most important factor, then $$ affordability, and the many factors that go into deciding where to buy a home. It is a big picture - kids/schools, your/ and your husbands commute time, neighborhoods, safety, etc etc....too many to discuss at this forum.
Connect with a good Realtor, and go through the home buying process step by step for what is most imp to you, as this is probably the most expensive and significant purchase of your life! You cannot change it very easily, and want to be completely happy when you do Buy!

I just answered another question you had asked.
If you are looking in Fremont, The schools in Fremont are excellent, the commute to the South Bay is easy with 680,880 and Dumbarton bridge close by depending on what area of Fremont you choose. Some of the best elementary schools are Gomes, Chadbourne, Mission Valley, Forest Park, Ardenwood, Parkmont, Weibel and Warwick.
Another area with easy access to freeways 92,880 and 580 is Castro Valley with excellent schools. It is very centrall located and most of the 10 elementary schools are good.
Pleasanton is a very nice area to live in, has very good schools and freeways like 84, 580 and 680 are close by.
If I can answer any more questions, Please call me at 510-279-9580.

There are many cities in the Bay Area that have most of the factors people are looking for in a community. Although there may be no 'perfect' city or town, the Bay Area cities are very close. Income, housing, schools, shopping, weather, close to sea & snow,... You should do research on line as well as visiting the local communities that you might consider. Talk to people about the good and the bad of there city. Check with local police - http://www.fremontpolice.org/index.html
Born and raised in Fremont, I think Fremont is a great city - with lots of great neighborhoods and schools. Ardenwood, Brookvale, Glenmoor, Warm Springs, Mission, just to name a few.
Check your price range, then look at the homes in your range and see what area / neighborhood looks the best.
This is a very important question to ask your self.
You may want to be close to work. Or at least not have too bad of a commute.
Also, do you have children, are schools a factor? Top rated schools sell homes.
What price range are you looking in?

Location is very important.
Have you talked to a loan agent? Your first stop should be talking with a loan agent to find out how much you qualify for and what your comfortable paying.
