Basis Scottsdale is one of the best schools in the nation! This is a charter school that provides an excellent education without breaking the bank. My niece graduated from Basis in 2012 and is now a Harvard undergrad. Some of the other colleges her former classmates are attending include Princeton, Brown, Duke and ASU's Barrett / Honors college. Basis is not for everyone though, it takes a certain type of kid who is willing to work extremely hard in school. In regards to well rounded public schools, I have heard that Horizon is great.

Hi Vicky,

You may want to check this website http://high-schools.com/arizona/scottsdale.html

As always I recommend that you pay a visit to the Principal of the High Schools you've selected so they can answer your questions and they will be happy to give you a tour of their school. They should be able to provide you with a rating of their school as well.

Wishing you the best and please do not hesitate to contact with any questions you may have.

Hi Vicki,

Another great way to research schools and cities is to use the buyer advisory. I will attach the link and from there, you can find out all sorts of valuable information: http://www.aaronline.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Buyer-Ad…

Here is the specific information about schools as well: Schools
Although there is no substitute for an on-site visit to the school to talk with principals and teachers, there is a significant amount of information about Arizona’s schools on the Internet. Visit http://www.ade.state.az.us for more information. The ADRE advises: “Call the school district serving the subdivision to determine whether nearby schools are accepting new students. Some school districts, especially in the northwest part of the greater Phoenix area, have placed a cap on enrollment. You may find that your children cannot attend the school nearest you and may even be transported to another community.” http://www.azre.gov/ PublicInfo/PropertyBuyerChecklist.aspx

Have a great day and let me know if you need anything else!

In th PV district, Horizon seems to be the best choice. Good performing arts and won nationals for Musical Theater Choir last year.

I mostly agree with all of the previous answers, however, Horizion High is not in the SUSD,
one not mentioned is Arcadia High which takes in the lovely Arcadia neighborhood;
dependent upon your student's interests in may make a difference as to which school they
attend, SUSD does have open enrollment so you may live in one place and have the student
attend another school - providing their own transportation is required. I have a granddaughter
currently attending Arcadia High and am very pleased (she lives with me); being a resident of
Scotttsdale since 1955 I am a graduate of Scottsdale High (1959) which was located in downtown
Scottsdale - it was torn down in about 1987...Arcadia was the second high school in the district
and opened n 1960 - just a little high school trivia! As with any decision the best approach is to
do one's 'homework'....let me know if I can be of further assistance.

The Arizona Republic ran an article a few weeks ago. Chaprarral, Saguaro, Desert Mountain, Notre Dame all ranked high in the state. Check out the article for much more detail.

Vicki - Many of my clients have found this website to be quite useful: http://www.greatschools.org. It's a very informative and interesting website. The only caveat that I have found over the years is that if a school is new or relatively new, the ratings may not be as accurate. The high schools in Scottsdale have all been around for quite a while, so you should be able to find good information.

I would love the opportunity to help you further in your home search, or if you have any other questions about Scottsdale or the surrounding communities. Please feel free to call or email me:

Are you looking for a school with a good sports program, theatre/arts, or are academics your only concern? Public or private. Scottsdale has schools rated in the top 10 in the country!
I would welcome the opportunity to discuss all the different options with you.
Please feel free to contact me.

We get this question a lot! Desert Mountain and Chaparral are great schools. If you are looking for a smaller high school Saguaro is a great choice. They all have something different to offer. Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) has an open enrollment policy-you don't have to live within the schools boundaries to enroll them in that school (subject to availability).

There are also some good charter schools and private schools in Scottsdale. The answer to your question depends on what you are looking for in a high school!

I would suggest you determine your housing needs-how much you want to spend, the areas you like-then match that up with the nearby schools. Let me know if I can help! Thank you.

Dear Vicki:

Horizon High School consistently ranks as the best High School in Scottsdale. Once or twice a year I get a call from a home buyer specifically requesting to be sent home only in Horizon High School district.

Hope this helps.
