You didn't give much information, i.e., what do you consider "Central Jersey" to be? I have friends who think that anything south of the Raritan River is "South Jersey". Lol.
What would a hypothetical "best city" mean to you? Great schools? parks? on the water? walkable neighborhoods? safe? low taxes?
In the past 3 months I've sold homes in South Amboy, Hazlet, Fair Haven and Highlands. They were all different, but for the buyers, all 4 of them were in "the best city to live in in Central Jersey"".

I live in Hunterdon County. As far as a "city" is concerned, one doesn't have to drive very far or very long to find everything they need: stores, shops, entertainment and, of course, good eating. Yes, taxes are high in New Jersey, but better in Hunterdon County. Warren County is also just lovely and you can get an even better "bang" for your buck.
Let me know if I can answer any questions or provide you with more information. I love it here and that's why I live here!
Monmouth County is very nice, and I can tell you that in this area now is the time to buy! Please let me know if you would like me to send you information on some properties. Call/text/email - whatever is best for you!
