Roxborough is one of the safest areas in the city! Many police and fire personnel live there. I love East Falls and know many young single people who come home alone late at night and go out jogging early in the morning. I'd encourage my own young daughter to live in either neighborhood! And if you need help finding a place, I'd love to help you. My name is Zeta Cross. I have been selling real estate here for 10 years. I am a green realtor! When you buy a house from me I give you a free energy audit. I'm with Elfant Wissahickon. 215 487-3300 x454 or 215 669-3660.

There are a few small areas of East Falls, like the area near Germantown or the area near North Philly, that are not entirely safe. And in parts of East Falls they really don't like outsiders. When I was in college I lived there and got my tires slashed, car keyed, etc. But it is not an "unsafe" area in the traditional sense of the word. And there are some absolutely beautiful areas of the neighborhood. The governor of Pennsylvania lives there, as well as one of our senators.

Roxborough and Manayunk are pretty much safe all around. Your biggest concern in Manayunk is drunken college kids. I just bought a house in Manayunk and so far it's been very peaceful.

I moved out in 1991, one of the reasons was robberies in the homes and not feeling safe walking down the street after I got off the bus.

Kristen,

You should always drive around an area to see if you feel safe day and night. Also, ask your friends if they know anyone that lives in East Falls/ Roxborough area. Talk to them and see what their thought are on the area.

Here are two good websites on East Falls/ Roxborough

Hi Kristen,

My advice would be to do three things. One, you can contact the local police department and get statistics from them on the area you are interested in, two drive by the home at different times and different days to get an idea of what is going on and three, don't be afraid to knock on neighbor's doors to ask them questions.

I hope this helps and I do hope that you have a buyer agent.

If you have any further questions, I'd love to talk with you.

Kristen,
Because of ethics violations, real estate professionals can't make these kind of judgements. I would take time to visit the area and talk with the people who live and work there. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me. I would be happy to help you .

I have a friend that is going to be moving to East Falls in April and they did a lot of looking into saftey concerns in these areas. They concluded that it was something THEY were comfortable with. I say that because no one here can tell you how YOU will feel about the level of saftey. I might be comfortable with issues that might cause concern to you. If you want the real stats for the area you can contact the 5th Disctrict Police Department of Philadelphia (they serve Roxy) at 215.686-3050 and get a little more comfortable with the area.

Let me know if i can be of any help.
