Hello, Eaw2r,
You have lots of questions about this home, and I will try to answer them as best I can, or refer you to a source where you can get an answer.
Is it worth $125,000? This home sold in July 2003 for $142,500. If the home has been well-maintained, and the community is stable and homes there are similar or better than this one, then $125,000 is probably a really good price.
Is the crime rate high there? You can check the "Stats and Trends" tab, look up Summerville, SC. Also, you may want to call the Summerville Police Department and/or the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office for more information on this specific neighborhood.
Distance to the Naval Weapons Station in Charleston, can be found by going to http://www.mapquest.com, and keying in the address of the home, and the address of the Naval Weapons Station. It will give you the distance in miles, and also in estimated commute times.
Is this a great investment and what would it resell or rent for? The drawback for this property is that it is only a two bedroom home. It does have two baths, though. Having only two bedrooms would make it a bit more difficult to resell or to rent.
If you are serious about investing in this home I would suggest:
-- Enlist a Realtor as your Buyer's Agent to take you and show you the home. The photos of the home look very nice, but do they accurately reflect the current condition of the home?
-- Hire a home inspector to do a thorough inspection of the home, and tell you the condition of the home, including what repairs need to be done, or may need to be done in the near future.
-- Understand that this particular home is being offered for sale as a "Possible Short Sale". Have your Realtor explain to you the pros and cons of working with Short Sale properties.
Wish you the best, and if you have any other questions, please contact me and I'll do my best to answer them for you!
