Would an older wood shingle roof be denied or disqualified by the FHA?

Our realtor said this would keep the FHA from approving our loan for the house..there is no cosmetic or foundation work needed.

Hello Justine and Adam,

Why don't you ask the Seller's for permission to have a reputable roofing company come out and take a look at the roof. I've used Excel Roofing a lot. Most of the time they certify the roof or show you where there may be a problem and you or the seller can have them repair it before the appraiser comes. Excel does free estimates and seem very honest to me.

Good Luck to you, I hope you get your new home!

It may. It depends on the condition of the roof. I have seen some that I thought may not pass that did and some that we thought were ok that did not pass. Your Realtor may know more of what they are saying since they have seen the home

Some FHA appraisers may think it is OK and a different one may say it is not. There is no way to tell until you get a FHA appraisal.
