Personally, I would not link the new installation with elevated prices at all. It's a nice for the entire city to enjoy for the short time it is here but don't think that people would consider this an integral part of the purchase price at all.

Funny question......

Again, SOMA or South Beach? Technically the Bay Bridge is closer to South Beach than SOMA.

One small detail is that most of the SOMA buildings are located on flat blocks and they are no high rises, therefore most of theem have no views of the Bay Bridge. The Bay Bridge is rather visible from residences in the South Beach! Potrero Hill, some high blocks of Noe, Diamond Heights, etc.

The lights show is intermitent and also temporary, the installation will be removed after 2 years.

If somebody will buy properties in SOMA will be because the overall development, not because of the temporary lights installation, no matter how beautiful they are.

Personally, I will no be 'selling' the lights to my clients who are interested in SOMA. It would be disingenous ..coming from any real estate professional.

And let's don't forget that our clients and smart and well informed.

Thank you,
Alina

Dear Trulia,

Asking any Realtor if something will raise home values is ridiculous in my opinion. None of us is fortune tellers. Perhaps you could some up with some better questions.

This is an interesting question. If you have a view of the Bay and Bay Bridge from your home in SOMA, it is possible that the light show will have some impact on home values--an impact on value that would be tough to quantify, however. But the light show, which is apparently only running for a couple of years, is not a major reason people would buy a SOMA home. Major reasons why SOMA is desirable as a location include being close to work, friends, cultural activities, nightlife, the Bay, and transportation. Most people buy the location before the view but if you have a view your home is already worth more when compared to similar homes without a view.
