Will a lateral job change for more money keep us from getting a mortgage in 6 months?

Asked by Beachgirl, 32086 Wed Jun 27, 2012

My husband just had a job offer with another IT company for a significant amount more than he makes now. Just wondering if this could effect our applying for a mortgage in 6 months? Thanks!

As long as you're in the same line of work you will be ok.

It shouldn't do anything to your chances of getting a loan.

I can handle any situation, so start packing for the move!

Prices are going up a predicted 6% in 2013.

This means a 200k home now will cost as much as 206,000 July and up to 212,000 in Dec 2013.

It should not have an impact. But it would be best to talk with a mortgage specialist. Send me an email at willbr3@yahoo.com and I can help you find a home and put you in touch with a few different mortgage specialists. Hope to hear from you soon. Best of luck.

Beach Girl,

Like the others have stated, the lateral job move should not hurt your chances and the additional income should really help your qualification process. Usually, what most lenders are looking for is that you have been in the same business or type of business for the past two years. Since your husband is staying in the same type of position with the same type of industry, this shouldn't be an issue for you. It would be a good idea for you to get a mortgage lender you can trust and talk to them about everything, get them to prequalify you and make sure you are on the right path to home ownership. Sounds like you are -- and it is so exciting! If I can be of help to you in helping you find a mortgage lender, or, when you are ready, in helping you find your home, just give me a call, a text or email. Good luck to you both!

Hi Beach Girl,

That shouldn't cause a problem for you. Lenders take a lot of factors into consideration when approving you for a home loan. If you'd like, you can do a free online approval with one of our Loan Originators to see where you stand. http://www.ApplyWithKelvin.com Let me know if I can help in any other way.

They will look at credit history and being on time with payments. You might want to get preapproved for a loan so when the time comes to make that purchase it is not an issue. I would love to help with that process of getting you pre-approved and that way you will know also ahead of time what you qualify for when doing your home search. If you have any questions please contact me at roni.heinrich@prunet.com or 407-620-1371 Cell. Hope to hear from you soon.
Thanks, Roni Hienrich

Hey Beachgirl! If he has had steady employment with the current job and simply wants to move to a different company for more money, there is no reason you guys should not qualify for a loan based on just that information. You'd be shocked to see who banks are lending to! Let me know if you'd like a local banker in St. Augustine to give you a call or by all means give me a call!
